The Sky will work with CeaseFire Illinois and the Cook County Sheriff’s Department on events throughout the 2013 season with a focus on helping to spread the message about reducing violence in the Chicago-land area.

The “Game Plan For Peace” at Chicago State University on Wednesday, May 15 begins this season-long anti-violence initiative. The event coincides with the Sky’s pre-season game against the New York Liberty, which tips off at 11:30 a.m.

Over 1,000 children from Curtis Elementary, Buckingham Elementary, Sandridge Elementary and other Chicago Public Schools will participate in the “Game Plan For Peace.” The children will take part in an anti-violence presentation, which promotes peaceful conflict resolution and teaches healthy ways to deal with anger.

The Sky along with the Cook County Sheriff’s Department will host a cyber-bullying workshop on June 9. The Sky’s website will feature anti-violence public service announcements and host resources from CeaseFire and the Cook County Sheriff’s Department to encourage fans to join the mission. The Sky coaches, players and staff will also attend a variety of events throughout the summer alongside CeaseFire and the Cook County Sheriff’s Department.

A press conference will precede the “Game Plan For Peace” match-up against the Liberty at 10 a.m. Speakers include Sky President and CEO Adam Fox, CeaseFire Illinois Director Tio Hardiman, Cook County Sheriff’s Department Deputy Chief of Staff John Konrad as well as Chicago city aldermen.
