Shock Raises $9,000 on BHA Night
The game worn jerseys of the starters – Sheryl Swoopes, Tiffany Jackson, Kayla Pedersen, Amber Holt and Ivory Latta – were auctioned off after the game to all those in attendance. All proceeds from the auction were donated to four local breast health awareness groups: Project Woman, Breast Impressions, Breast Cancer Assistance Program and Susan G. Komen.
“We were extremely pleased with the results of the auction and are happy to support local Breast Cancer Awareness groups in Tulsa,” Shock President Steve Swetoha said. “Breast Cancer impacts so many individuals in our lives and I’m proud to be part of a team and league that is able raise awareness and give back to the efforts of so many.”
Breast Health Awareness week took place in cities across the league from August 3-10 including four nationally televised games on ESPN2. Through its annual efforts, the WNBA has raised over $2.5 million while helping raise awareness of the disease across the country.
