President's Mailbag: Kloppenburg's First Month
Steve Swetoha has been the President of the Tulsa Shock since their move to Tulsa in 2009. He is entering his third year as the leader of the organization. You can follow Steve on Twitter @SteveSwetoha or submit questions here.
What is the status of Sheryl Swoopes? Betty Lennox?
Sheryl and Betty have become unrestricted free agents and are able to sign with any other team. Sheryl and Betty have meant a lot to this game and our league. We are so thankful they were able to play a part of their career here in Tulsa. However as Coach Klopp has mentioned, we as an organization are going in a different direction. We do not plan on re-signing Sheryl and Betty and we wish them nothing but success in the future.

How's does Liz Cambage's participation in the 2012 Olympics affect the opening day roster? Will we only have 10 players until she returns?
We will still carry 11 players on our roster with Liz not attending training camp and part of the regular season. Lizís salary will go against our cap and when she returns after the Olympic break we will need to open a roster spot.
Has a date been set for the start of training camp? How many players will be invited? When does the final roster need to be set?
Training camp is set for Sunday, April 29th and we will be inviting a total number of 15 players to camp. The final 11-player roster needs to be determined on Thursday, May 17th. We open the season on May 19th at home against the San Antonio Silver Stars.
Explain the decision to hire Kathy McConnell-Miller. What did Coach Kloppenburg like about her? What will her responsibilities be leading up to the season?
First of all, I was able to observe Kathyís work in her short stint with us last season and I was extremely impressed with her preparation and work ethic in helping our team get prepared for upcoming opponents. Second, she has the respect of our players from last season. This certainly was an important criteria when we were thinking about assistant coaches, especially Kathy. Third, Kathy wanted to be in Tulsa with this organization and be a part of something special moving forward. In the end, it is Coach Kloppís call with his assistants, I just helped with the process.
I believe Klopp liked her energy, knowledge of the womenís game, her experience working in Tulsa last season, and the respect she has from our players and head coaches in this league. As coach has said, Kathy is a basketball coach and someone we think can teach, develop and prepare our team every single night.
Coach Kloppenburg will have Kathy take on some of the scouting responsibilities, reviewing film of current players we are looking to sign and preparing for the draft. There is so much more, but these are the few important areas that we want to focus on.
