Competition heightens as WNBA athletes get in on the action

Last Week for Fans to Design Shooting Shirts to be Worn On Court By WNBA Stars

Calling all aspiring designers! Only one week remains to submit your designs and enter into adidasí i-design contest. The contest gives you, the fan, a chance to become a fashion designer and have a shooting shirt you create be produced by adidas and worn on-court by your favorite WNBA stars.

Even the WNBA players themselves are getting involved. Detroit Shock guard Alexis Hornbuckle wanted to take part in the contest and showcase her artistic capabilities. ďHaving the opportunity to design a shooting shirt for the WNBA i-design contest was both challenging and fun. I know our fans have a lot of great ideas and I didnít want to get outdone too badly,Ē said Hornbuckle. ďIím excited to see what the designs look like and Iím looking forward to wearing a shirt created by one of our fans.Ē

New York Liberty guard Lisa Willis and Seattle Storm forward Swin Cash have also designed their own T-shirts illustrating that they have talent not only on the court, but off the court as well. Even the guys are taking part in adidasí i-design. Detroit Pistons guard Chauncey Billups submitted a shirt that puts the Shock in Detroit with an image of electricity volts lurking over the Detroit skyline.

Although Billups and the WNBA players can't win the official contest, they are hoping their designs inspire fans to participate. So far the contest has received an overwhelming amount of submissions, both for specific teams and for the WNBA as a whole. From bright colors and strong visuals to simple and chic, the WNBA players will be playing in a lucky WNBA fanís unique style once the contest is decided.

Imagine going to a WNBA game and seeing a shirt you designed on the backs of those playing on the court. That's exactly what could happen if you enter i-design. The contest only lasts for another week. You can submit your own designs and check out the designs from Hornbuckle, Willis, Cash and Billups only at

The winning designer in each market will receive two tickets to attend a WNBA game as well as a special version of their winning shooting shirt autographed by their respective team in addition to an adidas prize pack. The fan whose design is chosen to be worn during the WNBA Finals will receive an all-expense paid trip for two to a Finals game.

Hurry, the last day for entries is July 31, 2008.
