Shock Down Liberty

The Tulsa Shock defeated the New York Liberty, 78-66, September 20, 2012 at the BOK Center in Tulsa, OK.

The Shock went on an 8-2 run a 5:16 until 2:55 in the first quarter to led the Liberty 17-10. At the end of the first quarter Tulsa led New York 22-14.

Riquna Williams hit a three with 5.0 seconds left in the first half to give the Shock a 15 point lead at the half at 45-30.

The Liberty came out of the half on a 10-2 run to pull within seven at 47-40 from 9:04 to 7:14.

New York was not able to make a run in the fourth quarter and Tulsa stayed contestant to pull through with the win.

Temeka Johnson earned a career-high 26 points and had six assists. Ivory Latta earned 13 off the bench. Glory Johnson grabbed seven rebounds, while Jennifer Lacy had a career-high four steals.

Kara Braxton, Cappie Pondexter and Plenette Pierson led the Liberty with 14 points each. Braxton grabbed five rebounds, while Pondexter had five assists. Kia Vaughn grabbed seven from the boards.

The Shock are on a three game winning streak tripling their win total from last season. Despite the loss, New York earned the final playoff spot in the East with Chicago’s loss to Atlanta. The Shock and Liberty will meet again Saturday September 22nd in New York.
