Fifth-Year Pro Was Fourth Leading Scorer, Third Leading Rebounder In Shock’s Playoff Run

Detroit Shock Re-signs Plenette Pierson

Auburn Hills, MI - Detroit Shock Head Coach and Director of Player Personnel Bill Laimbeer announced today that the Shock has re-signed Plenette Pierson, the team’s top reserve on its 2006 title team. Per team policy, financial terms of the contract were not disclosed.

Pierson, 25, was the fourth leading scorer (8.8) and third leading rebounder (5.4) during Detroit’s 2006 postseason run. Entering her fifth season in the league, and her third with the Shock, Pierson has averaged 7.4 points and 3.5 rebounds during her WNBA career. During the 2006 campaign – her first full season in Detroit – Pierson played in all 34 games and averaged 6.5 points and 3.9 rebounds.

Pierson, a Texas Tech graduate, was originally drafted with the fourth pick in the 2003 WNBA Draft by the Phoenix Mercury. The Shock acquired her in a June 29, 2005 trade in exchange for Andrea Stinson and the Shock’s 2006 second round draft pick.
