Shock Aquires Plenette Pierson In Trade With Mercury

Auburn Hills, MI Detroit Shock Head Coach and Director of Player Personnel Bill Laimbeer announced today that the team has acquired Phoenix Mercury forward Plenette Pierson in exchange for Andrea Stinson and Detroits 2006 second round draft pick.

Pierson gives us an additional young forward to work into our rotation who can give us a boost with her scoring, rebounding, and ability to block shots at the 3 or the 4, said Laimbeer. Shes just 23-years-old, and will continue to improve as a player over the coming years. That improvement should be magnified as she works alongside some of the best young post players in the game.

Pierson is in her third season in the WNBA and played her first two-plus seasons in Phoenix after the Mercury selected her with the fourth overall pick in the 2002 WNBA Draft.

She brings career averages of 7.7 points and 3.6 rebounds to Detroit, and was averaging 7.7 points and 4.9 rebounds through 12 games (11 starts) for the Mercury in 2005. She currently ranks 12th in the WNBA in blocked shots per game.

Stinson played in 9 of 11 games for Detroit this season after signing with the team as a free agent during training camp. Shes averaging 1.4 points and 1.0 assists on the year..
