  • Shock Head Coach Bill Laimbeer

On the start of the game:
“I’ll take any good start, we’ve had so few of them this year. Part of it was we came out with good intensity, part of it was they just weren’t making shots, so we’ll take only a little bit of credit for it.”

    On making the playoffs:
“Destiny was in our hands going into this game, we knew that. We win out, we’re in, or win three of the four [against Washington] we’re in. We’re going to Charlotte, we owe them one. It’s a game that we really desperately need and our team should be prepared for it right now.”

    On focus:
“I told them in the locker room I was impressed with their energy level because it is very difficult first game back from a west coast trip. We’re normally sluggish so I was impressed with their effort.”

    Shock Forward Cheryl Ford

    On the game:
“It was definitely a big win for us, we came off the west coast and we brought the energy that we needed. Bill thought we were going to be a little tired coming off that west coast trip. We all knew this was a game we needed, a must win. We stuck together as a team and everybody played hard.”

    Shock Forward Barbara Farris

    On the game:
“The whole thing Bill’s been talking about is piecing together a 40 minute game and we were fortunate that they came out really flat on offense and we were able to stay in the lead. They came back and they had a spark and they had to fight back, they couldn’t shoot as bad as they did in the first half, and we were able to hold on.”

    Mystics Head Coach Richie Adubato

    On the Shock:
“They’re very good. I mean we’re talking about five All-Stars here. We’re not talking about a team that doesn’t have All-Stars. You got Katie, Nolan, Cash, Cheryl and Riley.”

    On the playoffs:
“We got our backs against the wall. But the thing about the game of basketball is that it is never over. They (Detroit) still have to play. They have to play on the road. We’re home our next two out of three games. So, we still have a chance.”
