  • Shock Coach Rick Mahorn

    On when he stepped in:
“About the five min mark. When they walk around in a daze, they sometimes need directions. I huddled them up all really close and expressed to them what needs to be done. Defense was going to win the game, and that is what we did. We dominated with defense.”

    On plays:
“At that point, you don’t need plays and you need to get in their minds and get it together. They played more physical than us and we needed to match their intensity. And we did that.”

    Shock Forward Barbara Farris

“We made a lot of unforced turnovers that were not necessary. We were not rotating correctly on defense but we just bucked down at the end. Rick told us that if we are going to lose this game we ‘re going to lose it fighting and that’s all we needed to hear. We were not going to lose games like we did last season.”

    Shock Forward Kara Braxton

“Bill could see it in our eyes that we were not ready, but he didn’t tell us until after the game. They picked us up a lot during the time outs and that why we came back fighting. Rick knew the plays and our capabilities and he came out and worked hard, and that’s what we tried to do. We have a lot to prove. I wasn’t here last year, but we are going to take it personal this year and I’m glad to be apart of it.”

Silvers Stars Head Coach Dan hughes

“Obviously we didn’t finish, but I thought we played well in the second half. I thought we played a pretty good basketball game but obviously we didn’t finish the game the way we wanted to. We put ourselves in a situation to be successful then I thought Stinson’s two big three’s were important for them—a very timely shot. Then I thought the post got the second shots and ran the floor on us late. We just didn’t convert well; I like putting ourselves in a situation to finish our game.”

    Silver Stars Forward Shyra Ely

“I am just disappointed because we felt like we were in a good position to win the game and we kind of gave it up in the last four minutes.”
