  • Shock Head Coach Bill Laimbeer

    On the game:
“We lose this game, we’re probably toast, or real close to it. This game was the tiebreaker over New York. We can’t get last night’s game back. However, we have another game against Charlotte on Tuesday and then a home game against Minnesota, so we need to take care of business at home.”

On Cheryl Ford making free throws at the end of the game:
“I expected her to, she had confidence going to the line, you could see it was a different Cheryl tonight than it was last night.”

    On Katie Smith:
“I think she’s a starter rather than a bench player. To come in right away and get in the flow of the game, and we may make a change in the next game.”

    Shock Forward Swin Cash

    On the game:
“Being aggressive, that was the main thing. However long I was on the floor, I just wanted to be really aggressive, just giving it my all and not worrying about anything. I just wanted to have fun.”

On Cheryl Ford making free throws at the end of the game:
“It was great, I know she really wanted to get it back after yesterday. It was good for her to really step up and go ahead and make those free throws and we believed in her.”

    Shock Guard Katie Smith

    On her defense:
“Defensively I feel like I can really help out and guard somebody and just be solid, come off the bench whatever [Coach Laimbeer] wants.”

On feeling like a part of the team:
“They welcomed me and I had no problems, nothing. Just learning the offenses, obviously takes a second for me to get comfortable and understand the way they play.”

    Liberty Head Coach Pat Coyle

“I like our team. I think we’re playing good basketball. We understand the race that we’re in and we’re working…we’ll have to get a win.”

“We hurt ourselves in the fact that we missed a lot of free throws that we shouldn’t have missed.”

    Liberty Guard Becky Hammon

When asked what the Liberty have to work on:
“Rebounds, turnovers… individual match-ups is something that we needed to focus on.. You have to rebound. I know I only got one, so I need to step up and get more.”

On if the team thought they would win this game:
“We just tried to chip away. They’re a great team. You can’t trade baskets when you’re behind. And we were just trading off baskets and we needed to get a stop.”

    On Swin Cash:
“She kind of hurt us in the zone a little bit. She found some gaps and some holes. She plays hard. You can give her that. But that wasn’t the story of the game at all.”

On how different the Shock is with the addition of Katie Smith:
“They are a lot more dangerous because she spreads the defense so much that her presence out there allows their base to get a little more room to operate in the middle. So she helps them a lot I think. She is exactly what they needed. She’s a great player. You have to have respect for her all the time wherever she is on the court.”
