  • Ford's Season Statistics
    Shock Head Coach Bill Laimbeer

    On winning tonight’s game:
“Something went right for us. It’s been about all the negatives and this season nothing has really been going for right, but Deanna’s shot went in and that is what’s fun. But a lot is gong to happen in the next few days. On Sunday it’ll be very clear what we will have to do and what position we are playing for.”

    Desperation Shot:
“I was calling timeout so that we didn’t do anything stupid. No one heard me fortunately. I just wanted to make sure that it wasn’t a desperation shot because there was still plenty of time. But you know Deanna got the ball and she makes plays like that. It got us over the hump mentally.”

    Shock Center Ruth Riley

    Desperation Shot?
“I heard Bill call timeout, but at the same time I was getting the ball thrown at me. I saw a girl close out on me too. It was a sigh of relief when it went in knowing that we had another opportunity to win the game. I was thinking here we go again because the were scoring but we pulled it together.”

“We know what we need to do but there is no pressure we just need to get out there and do it. It’s in our hands. Since Swin is out we should get the players off the bench to contribute a little bit more and step up because they are going to get more minutes.”

    Liberty Head Coach Pat Coyle

On playing such a competitive game
“You expect it. It’s a game of runs. They went on a run to go up 13 and we went on a run to get back even and to go ahead. It’s a game of runs.”

    On what happened in overtime:
"That's the second time that (Deanna) Nolan has hit a shot at the buzzer to send it in to overtime with us. I think we work so hard to get to that point. I don’t know if we had any gas left, but they executed and we turned the ball over after a timeout. That to me was the difference in the game.”

On the playoff implications of the game:
“Well it gives them (the Shock) life. It also makes it harder on us. We’ve to two of three left at home and we got to win. We’ve got to win two out of three.”

    Liberty Guard Becky Hammon

On how she felt about the end of the game:
“I thought that going in to overtime we had a total lack of energy. We didn’t even play hard in overtime and that was the game. By playing hard I mean boxing out, going for loose balls. There’s just no excuse for that. In overtime you just got to find some energy and buckle down and play as hard as you can.”

On the playoff implications for the rest of the season:
“We got three games left and we are by no means out of this. We’ve got two at home and we just have to take care of ourselves and let the chips fall where they may. If we win two games we are in the playoffs. Then its whole new life once you are in the playoffs.”

On the closeness in the Eastern Conference:
“That’s the way it’s been in the East. Anybody can beat anybody on a given night. I thought we’ve had our chances and now we just didn’t come up with it. I thought that defense has always been something that we can rely on, and our defense just wasn’t there tonight.”
