    Shock Head Coach Bill Laimbeer

“I thought we were past our hurdles but we are not. Missed free throws, turnovers, lack of execution and not having our entire team come to play. We are not good enough to over come those things and we keep doing them."

“We had some players that didn’t want to show up and play hard tonight and they were already on vacation. We should have won the game, they are not a very good basketball team with out Katie Smith and we let them win. We continue to not do the little things. We won’t get on the floor for loose balls, we will not hustle and execute on offense, we stand around too much, we miss free throws, we turn the ball over and all those things have cost us these games.”

About what needs to be done over the break:
“Players have to commit during this break that they really want to compete and win a championship. Right now we have players that are not committed to that. They don’t work on their individual stuff in practice as hard as they should and it is showing in our losses.”

    Shock Forward Swin Cash

“We are in a hole and if we don’t get out of it we might end up staying there and playoffs will come up and we won’t be there. We have to fight and we have to win games when we come back in September so that is the motivation to work out for all of August.”

    Shock Guard Deanna Nolan

“We just aren’t focused enough. A t the end we missed a lot of lay-ups and free throws. We came out in the second half with a little bit more energy than we had in the first half, we came back and pulled away a little bit and we let them back in. We just have to make stops when we need them and make the baskets too.”

    About the break:
“We need to go out and refocus and commit ourselves to basketball and realize that we have seven games left when we get back in September and we need to win at least five of those seven to get a spot in playoffs.”

    Lynx Guard Helen Darling

“It got really ugly down the stretch and we made some mental mistakes but the thing is that we never gave up. That is the one good thing about our team and things just happened to fall our way tonight. “

    On keeping momentum after break:
“I think this break is good for us as far as trying to get a little rest. The break is an opportunity for many; obviously it is for Katie Smith because she is going to the Olympics but other players as well because they can go back home and work on their games.”

Importance of winning game before break without Katie Smith:
“I think it was very important. But the thing was that we knew that we could win without Katie in the lineup. Of course she is a great player and it makes us better when she is on the floor, but we have been playing great defense without her in the lineup and we have gelled well as a team. We won two out of three games without Katie, when we beat San Antonio of course people said we won because San Antonio is the worst team statistically in the league, then we came in here and won, and we only lost a tough game in Seattle. So we proved ourselves, but of course it is much better with Katie in the lineup.”

On Ruth and Cheryl foul trouble:
"It was important, they are great players and when you go into the lane they make you change your shots. So, obviously when we got them in foul trouble it allowed us to go inside a lot more and get buckets in the paint."
