    Shock Head Coach Bill Laimbeer

“We never make it easy on ourselves, but you know, that’s the role of the defending champion. They have to take their best shot at everybody and they’re going to get their best shot. We’re accepting that fact, but we still have a long way to go to be a good basketball team. We can get better as a basketball team, but we’ll take the four wins this past week. We knew we had a rough stretch—three on the road and them coming on a back-to-back at home. We’ll take the wins.”

    Shock Forward Swin Cash

“Every season is different, so we just keep learning. We’d rather have games like we has last year where we’re up by, like, 15 and everybody can play, but at the same time you have to understand that every team is playing extremely hard against us. It’s not like we’re so dominant that against a team’s A-game we can just blow them out by 50. It’s going to be a struggle.”

    Shock Center Ruth Riley

“We needed to get this home win. We appreciate everyone that came out and supported us. It’s great to have four wins this week. We’re trying to get to the point where we’re playing 40 minutes of solid basketball but it just says a lot about our team to be able to come back. And it’s still early in the year so maybe we’ll be at that point at the end (of the season).”

    Fever Head Coach Brian Winters

“We are a younger team and we have not been together as long as Detroit has. We have Kelly Miller who is a third year player, Deanna Jackson is new to our team, we are a team that’s adjusting and growing as we go. When we get to games like this, when they go to the wire, we will start to get better with clock management as well as other things. When the free throws are 35 to 12, I don’t care whether you play high school, college or the pros; it’s very difficult to win the game. We had a lot of opportunities and did not capitalize but all of that goes back on the fact that our team is so young. We will get better, it all just takes a little time that’s all.”

    Fever Guard Kelly Miller

“The fouls and the difference in free throw attempts are really key, especially in such a close game. They went to the free throw line a lot more than us. There were some fouls we made in the game that we probably should not have made but that’s just how it goes sometimes. She (Natalie Williams) was very physical inside, which helped us a lot. She was battling the entire game; unfortunately she fouled out at the end. We all played a very tough game.”
