Shock Head Coach Bill Laimbeer

“Cheryl Ford does mean a lot to us. She is our best rebounder and inside presence. It was just disappointing that the way we prepared for the game today was poor on the players part. We saw it when we came to the gym, their body language, the preparation before they walked on the floor to play the game. It was very disappointing.”

“I think our outside shooting right now is in the tank. Our guards are not shooting the ball very well. Professional basketball is about guards and they have to make shots, and we are not making shots.”

“We execute well when we have our top six or seven players out there. You take away our top two bigs and it’s going to throw a little bit of a loop in there, but we still could have been competitive. I don’t know if we could have won the basketball game. I thought they played well."

Shock Guard Katie Smith

“Washington came out hungrier basically. They came out and played harder. They knocked down some shots and they took it at us. We had to come out and be that energy and on defense we have to communicate better.”

“They’re a good team. Connecticut, Washington, us, and Indiana…anybody can win on any night.”

“We got looks, but we didn’t hit. Obviously with Ruth (Riley), being low a big body, it does hurt. Especially Ruth, she’s solid. You are asking people to come in who play undersized. We still had an opportunity to get going, but we need to play a little harder, especially on defense. If you don’t hit shots as well as they do, you have to find a way to win ball games.”

“I think they are playing confidently. They won some big ones, and they have a lot of veterans. They’re team has changed with DeLisha (Milton-Jones), Nikki Teasley, and Crystal Robinson. They’ve been in the league as long as I have. They’ve been there, done that. They look relaxed, confident, and they just play.”

Shock Center Ruth Riley

“We have a talented bench. We miss Cheryl a lot because she’s such a force for us, in rebounding as well. With Plenette and Kara, we still have strong post players coming in. We didn’t really come out with the energy that Washington had.”

Mystics Head Coach Richie Adubato

“We were able to re-group, pick up our intensity on both ends of the floor, and execute the offense. We got some good baskets, we got some good shots, and we put them down. Then, we didn’t give them any second shots at the other end. It was a nice team effort.”

“21,11,13,18,11 [points]. That’s five people in double figures. That means you’re really moving the ball, you’re playing together, and you’re playing unselfish. When you do that, usually you get good shots.”

“In the first four games, their perimeter shooting has been way down. We gambled on the zone and it worked well for us, because they weren’t making the outside shot. The only way we got hurt was on the offensive rebounds. It was a good trade-off.”

Mystics Forward DeLisha Milton-Jones

“I had a great conversation with a great player today, Gilbert Arenas, and he gave me some great pointers. He told me that you have to be conscious when you are out there on the court. You need to block everything else out and only see the baseline. Then, if you can do that, you can be aggressive and attack the rim. Whether you are up by three points or twenty points, if you can keep that mentality up, then the outcome can only be positive.”

“I think our defense helps us to do so well in the games. And, we can get out and run. I think it has been to our benefit the new rules that they’ve implemented. The rules that they’ve implemented this year have helped us to play faster. Then, we can put up big buckets.”

“Every team is a different strategy that we present to them. The Houston Comets are very talented and they have a veteran squad. So, we are going to have to show them something different than we showed Detroit tonight. But, I am expecting to win again because I am an optimist.”

Mystics Guard Alana Beard

“The problem with the scoreboard was very distracting. It takes energy to tell yourself to stay focused and play the actual game. We had a slow start after that, but we picked up afterwards. “We keep pressure on ourselves during the game because we want to be a championship team. We know in order to do that we have to come ready every minute of the game.”

Mystics Guard Nikki Blue

“Detroit is a very good team. I think they are one of the best teams we’ve played so far. I can’t wait to play them again and see how things end up in the Eastern Conference, which is very tough right now.”
