On team’s effort going into all star break:
“It was important for us to win this game tonight. We didn’t want to go into the all star break on a 3 game losing streak, and losing eight out of ten. That was the hardest we have played in awhile. It really helps.”

On: Improved performance of his team:
“It’s a different effort from what I have seen in the last ten games. They have finally decided to come together as a team. Yes it is only one game, but you saw Elaine Powell play as hard as she has all year long. Good things happen when you play that hard.”

On: Shooting twice as many free throws as the Mystics:
“Well what we did is we attacked from start to finish. We attacked that rim at every opportunity, and we put ourselves in a position to march to that free throw line. We’re big, we’re strong, we’re fast, and we’re bigger than that team. Our plan was to go at that rim, and keep pounding that glass, and se what happened.

    Mystics Head Coach Richie Adubato

    On tonight’s overall game:
“There were three keys to the game, number one rebounding and we didn’t do that. Number two is shooting and we shot the ball okay tonight. Number three is free throw shooting. The Shock getting to the foul line 32 times compared to our 16 does not help. That discrepancy was definitely hurting us. When we were eight points down there was a big call on Charlotte Smith-Taylor when she got that offensive rebound. Instead of us closing it to six they push the lead to ten. It takes the crowd out of the game and the momentum changes.”

    On Detroit:
“ This Detroit team to me is better than the team that won the championship two seasons ago. They have added Braxton (Kara) who is 6 feet 6 inches and Pierson (Plenette) who is a great rebounder. They also still have Farris (Barbara). They have a complete team because they have three great guards in Elaine Powell, Deanna Nolan and Chandi Jones. I think they have everything that they had before when they won the championship. I think in the second half of the season they are going to be a very difficult team to play.”

    Mystics Guard Temeka Johnson

On the difference in the last ten minutes of the game:
“In the last ten minutes of the game we did not execute the offense like we are supposed to do. When you get outscored and out-rebounded it’s hard to come back even though you are still in the game.”

On the momentum change after having a 46-42 lead with 14 minutes left in the second half:
“When you come from behind and gain the momentum you have to find a way to maintain it. We didn’t do that.”
