Scored game-winning shot with one second left.
  • Shock Head Coach Bill Laimbeer

You hope it doesnt have to come to that. If we come out from the start and not two-thirds into the first half it should be a different story, but we have confidence in our team. Right now were not over confident, but I would have expected us to come out with more intensity than we did.

"They (San Antonio) came out very deliberate tonight. They played to their strengths, and I feel bad for Dan but thats the nature of the beast. Unfortunately, someone had to lose this game tonight.

"I think that we will need to finish at least 4-2 to be assured of a playoff spot.

    Shock Center Ruth Riley

"Well its a long game, so we just needed to stay close until we started getting shots to fall. We played the last 30 minutes really well and put ourselves in a position to be able to win. Once Katies shot went up, it was just a matter of being in the right spot at the right time. We just have to keep it up.

    On season-high scoring:
Ive had great looks all season, but havent had the consistency that I would like. Tonight I just felt good and the shots started falling.

Silver Stars Head Coach Dan Hughes

Im pleased with the way we competed in the basketball game. We were down late and they battled back to make a play. On offense we affected their shot, but we couldnt follow up and get the rebound. Its a tough loss to take. It was one of our best games in terms of effort. Weve grown on both ends of the court. We overcame adversity, we just didnt find a way to rebound.

When asked if this game summed up the season:
It does. Weve grown defensively in a big way. The team gave great effort. Our record is not indicative of the way weve played. Weve had growing pains. Its been tough. I would have liked to have seen them rewarded, but thats life.

    Silver Stars Guard Marie Ferdinand

Its tough. We played a great game overall. Its a heartbreaker. It hurts. We played our best game. We gave Detroit everything we had. Its tough to swallow. We played 40 minutes of basketball. Its hard to not finish when you play as hard as we did.

On losing on the last shot:
Its one of those things. We just have to stick together. Im proud of all my teammates and the coaching staff. The coaches had us well prepared and it showed.
