    Shock Head Coach Bill Laimbeer

“We were very ready to play today. It’s been coming. We’ve seen it coming since the start of the year. We talked about it a lot, being ready to play in the first half. I can only talk to them and try to find a bench player or two tops to come in and play with energy. It all comes from them and today they were ready to go. This was the greatest week of practice for our bench [players]. Barbara [Farris] has been out. Cheryl has been gone all week for a family issue. The bench really got into practice this week. They deserve the time they got today and they did a good job for us.”

    Shock Forward Swin Cash

“We had a good practice this week. We had a week off before our game and had a lot of good practices. Our bench unit has done a good job this whole week in practice and they’ve been really competitive and it showed today in the game and that’s what you like to see.”

On becoming the Shock’s leading scorer:
“It’s a real honor but it’s a reflection on my teammates and how they’ve helped me along the way at this point in my career.”

    Shock Forward/Center Iciss Tillis

“We had a week off and we’ve been practicing really hard. The team has been meshing and playing really hard together and it showed today in the game. From the starters to the bench players who came in, we did our assignments and played hard. I feel that the week of practice should carry over to our next three or four games.”

    Monarchs Head Coach John Whisenant

"We just got beat by a better team today. We could not stop their transition game. Detroit attacked us and made us look slow. We had trouble getting shots, but that is not unusual for us. We were prepared for that if only we could have gotten our defense together."

"They are an outstanding team. They are the WNBA champions who just keep getting better. We need to go back and try to stop teams like Detroit that are attacking us offensively. Without stops, we are not offensively gifted enough to outscore people, but we score with our defense."

"We don’t have players that are offensive superstars. Our two all-stars have been Ticha, who is an assist person, and “Yo” (Yolanda Griffith) who helps with rebounding."

    Monarchs Forward Yolanda Griffith

"We couldn’t really get set defensively and that played to their advantage. We just have to keep working on the defense and knock some shots down, and they won’t get those quick opportunities."

"We just got to get on the same page. We need to keep talking to each other and keep pushing each other."

    Monarchs Forward DeMya Walker

"I feel like we tried to do our best and play hard, but we can’t just play hard for a couple of minutes. Right now there are no excuses."

"We are one of the best teams in the league, but you wouldn’t know it based on our record. We just need to go back and work harder."
