    Shock Head Coach Bill Laimbeer

    On tonight’s game:
“We didn’t play as hard as we needed to tonight. We didn’t play with enough concentration. I think that was the biggest key for us tonight.”

    On the New York Liberty:
“We knew they were going to be a better team than last year. They added some pieces and got a little bigger. They can score in most positions.”
    Shock Center Ruth Riley

    On tonight’s game:
“I think that mentally we weren’t there from the start. You can’t play like that in the league. The team’s are just too talented.”

    On the New York Liberty:
“They have different personnel with Becky (Hammon) at the point. It makes it hard to defend a shooting guard like her. She’s a great shooter and they’re pushing the ball a lot more than they did last year.”
    Shock Forward Swin Cash

    On the New York Liberty:
“You have to give a lot credit to New York. They played really well. They executed all the things they needed to do.”

    On tonight’s game:
“We didn’t bring our ‘A’ game. We didn’t have any intensity from the start. That’s what happens. This league has gotten so much better that you can’t take days off, and turn it off and on.”
    Liberty Head Coach Richie Adubato

    On Playing Defense:
“This was a great win for us, for a number of reasons, mainly because they beat us four times in a row last year. Our defense was the best we have played in a long time, holding them to only 33% shooting.”

“Crystal (Robinson) and Vickie (Johnson) did another great job defensively, having to defend against some of the most talented players in the league.”

    On DeTrina White:
“(DeTrina) White had another big game, getting eight boards in twenty minutes, which is sensational. She is only 5”11 and banging with the best of them in Ruth Riley and Swin Cash.”

    On the upcoming road trip:
“We have a very tough road trip coming up, first in Minnesota and then in Charlotte, so we need every win we can get at home. That’s why this win is so important.”

    On Detroit:
“They did not play their best game, however, we challenged every one of their shots and matched their physical play, getting over their tough screens.”
    Liberty Center Tari Phillips

“We did have some turnovers but we also made them turn the ball over as well. They are very good closing out games and we did a good job at stopping them. Last year we lost to them four times, and three of those games were close games. I think today we remembered last year and we played our game and played great defense.”
    Liberty Forward Elena Baranova

“Defense was the key tonight. We are playing good, as a team and that is what is important to us. We wanted to limit them on two things; on the boards and shooting percentage. The outrebounded us but we also caused them to shoot poorly from the floor.”
    Liberty Guard Becky Hammon

“We really got everyone involved tonight. That is how we are going to beat teams; by playing together. Defensively we have to set the tone and win our games on that end. DeTrina White has been our key. She is our very own Dennis Rodman.”
