Shock Head Coach Bill Laimbeer

On the game:
“It was a phenomenal half of basketball that we played. We limited our turnovers, which really is the only thing that stops our ball club from being wildly successful and I think everyone in the gym saw the talent level and the capabilities of this team.”

On things that need improving:
“I thought the 2nd half we started making subs, we had a big lead, we knew it was preseason so we lost a little bit of focus. The turnovers crept back up in there. Overall, we worked on some things, got some good work in and that was good for us.”

On the outlook for the regular season:
“Just play hard every game. Play defense, we play hard every game, we don't turn the ball over and our talent level should come (to the top).”

Shock Forward Cheryl Ford

On the game:
“We had some things we've got to work on. We did good in the 1st half without turning the ball over, then in the 2nd half we turned it over. I just think we just have to keep the mental focus for both halves.”

On the outlook for the regular season:
“We're just trying to stay together as a team. Hopefully no one gets egos and we just continue to play together. We're just trying to win the Eastern Conference first.”

Shock Forward Swin Cash

On the game:
“I thought we saw some good things, saw some bad things, saw some things we could improve on. Overall, I thought it was a good game, a good building block going into the regular season.”

On her play:
“Just getting my timing back, getting back into the swing of things, getting comfortable with my teammates, understanding each other. I feel ready to go (for the regular season).”

Comets Head Coach Van Chancellor

On the play of Roneeka Hodges:
“I always said somebody else's misfortune is your opportunity. I had been telling Roneeka that she ought to hang around, get an opportunity, step up and play. She's got an opportunity and she's played really well. That's an absolute plus and I still think with the 24 second shot clock, you're going to have to play more players.”

On the play of Detroit:
“We played a team tonight that had all their players, they were ready to play, and I thought we played a team tonight that could win the championship this year. They are one of a group of teams that I think could win it. I think they are talented enough, Swin Cash is back, and just like in Washington, I thought we played and competed and did all we could do tonight.”

Comets Forward Sheryl Swoopes

How much concern is there going into season opener?
“I think we keep looking at the way we are playing and saying it's pre season and doesn't count. We are still trying to decide or figure out who's going to be on the team so we're just playing with everybody not really knowing whose going to be on the team. And not playing with players that have been here before, Tina (Thompson) is out, Dominique (Canty) is out, and Tamecka (Dixon) is out and Sancho (Lyttle) is out. I think it's real easy to make excuses. Those are four really good players that we are missing, so I think it is real easy to say that when we get them back we will be a lot better. I agree with that and there's no doubt in my mind that we will be a much better team. I think there is a lot of concern when this is our last preseason game before regular season starts on Sunday, and for us to play the way we played, I think we played a lot better than when we did against Washington. It's still pretty frustrating to me.”

On the play of Detroit:
“I think we knew coming into this game how much we were going to have to fight. Detroit has become a very good team. I think at least 3 of the players they bring off the bench can start for any team in the league. Here they have a lot of experience and they play well together. Couch Chancellor said earlier that he thinks they are going to be the team to beat in the championship. I don't know if I would say that, because it's still early in the season, but I said at the beginning of the season, it's not going to be easy period whether we are playing a team from the Eastern Conference or Western Conference. Every game is going to be tough.....”

Comets Guard Roneeka Hodges

On the game with many players out:
“Well, it was a combination of things, I think we came out on the play pretty well, but Detroit was pretty hot and they were beating us on the glass a little bit early. We played a little bit better in the second half, but it just wasn't enough to get a victory.”

On her shooting tonight:
“I just came out and played you know. I got the opportunity to play so I wanted to take advantage of it and get myself in a comfort zone and not worry about anything like that. I just wanted to come out and play.”

On her mind set coming into the game:
“I think right now I'm in a pretty good place. We have a team full of established veterans and I'm just trying to find my way, and, hopefully well enough to get into the rotation.”
