Ivory Latta and Tiffany Jackson Ready For 2011
“Off the court we pretty much hang with each other,” Latta said. “We are like sisters and love to have fun all the time. I really enjoy playing with her and what most people don’t know is that she really is a goofy person so our personalities somewhat match. And us being close off the court helps big time on the court.”
Latta had an exceptional year in Israel, averaging 17.6 points, 4.9 assists and 4.5 rebounds on 49 percent shooting from the field and 41 percent from three.
“She is much more of a leader and she is free to play her game,” said Jackson, acknowledging that Latta has become her best friend over this off-season. “When I look at her I see the Ivory from UNC.”
Jackson herself had an exceptional year for Ramat Hen, averaging 16.8 points and 12.5 rebounds per game, building on her greatly improved playing time and statistics after being traded to the Shock from the New York Liberty midway through the 2010 season.
“I think our time here playing together will impact a lot on the court because now we have a better understanding of each other,” said Latta about Jackson. “I am able to see when and where she likes to get the ball and vice versa. Our chemistry will be there because of a strong bond we have on and off the court. It will be very exciting and I’m looking forward to playing with her this summer.”
Last year, Latta and Jackson finished the season starting 16 of the last 17 games together, adding stability and consistency at the point guard and forward spot that was lacking in the early parts of the season.
Latta led the Shock in scoring at 12.4 points and 3.9 assists per game. Jackson was second on the team to Chante Black in rebounds/game (5.8) and total rebounds (144).
“Being close off the court makes chemistry on the court that much better. The fact that we have played together for a year straight makes a bond that will carry over in Tulsa and improve our play,” Jackson said. “I’m really excited about the Shock’s future. We finished up strong and I think we got better. By adding more players and everyone improving, it will only make us that much better. I feel the fans have a lot to look forward to.”
