Angel McCoughtry of the Atlanta Dream Named adidas Rookie of the Month for July
NEW YORK, Aug. 4, 2009 – The WNBA named the Atlanta Dream’s
In nine games, McCoughtry led all rookies in steals per game (2.0) and ranked third in points per game (10.2). She was nearly perfect from the free throw line during this span, making all but one to rank second among rookies (.944). McCoughtry’s then-season high in steals (6), along with her 20 points, came in a 98-95 victory over the 2008 WNBA defending champion Detroit Shock. In five out of the nine games played in July, McCoughtry scored in double-figures. Over the month, she helped the Dream to a 5-4 record.
The first overall pick in the 2009 WNBA Draft presented by adidas, McCoughtry has scored in double digits in 12 of 20 games played this year. With her scoring ability, McCoughtry has helped the Dream improve to a 10-10 record, already bettering last year’s inaugural record by six wins. McCoughtry currently ranks in the top ten in the league in steals per game (1.8).
