The reigning 2010 WNBA MVP and Playoffs MVP Lauren Jackson has suffered an apparent Achilles' tendon injury while playing overseas for Russia's Spartak club. Exact details of how she suffered the injury remain unclear, but FIBAEurope.com and an AAP report both suggest she will miss up to three months with what is being labeled an "acute" injury.
Despite obvious discomfort, Jackson attempted to practice through the injury before ultimately heading back to her native Australia for further medical attention.
"I couldn't move, the swelling was very obvious and the pain was just a little bit too painful," she told AAP, later adding that she is going to miss a lot of basketball but "when your body says stop, you have to listen."
Jackson was averaging 17.3 points and 8.4 rebounds per game for the 5-3 Spartak club that recently reacquired Jackson's Seattle Storm teammate Sue Bird.
