Finals Quotes Game 2

Game 2
September 15, 2005
Connecticut 77, Sacramento 70 (OT)
Here is what the players and coaches had to say after the game:

Brooke Wyckoff, Connecticut Sun: Yeah, I mean, it was just -- first it was a feeling of relief being like, you know, we were back in the game and that I actually hit the shot and wasn't the dork that missed it at end with the wide open shot. But, yeah, it's a great feeling. This is what you play the game for is moments like that. So it was exciting, definitely.

Nicole Powell, Sacramento Monarchs: I feel sick right now because I feel like we had a really good opportunity to win that game, but itís not over. That is why we continue to play, that is why itís a five-game series. We are excited to go back to Sacramento and play.

Taj McWilliams-Franklin, Connecticut Sun: They played a great game (Wednesday), and it's a back-to-back. We play better on the second game of back-to-backs. Clearly we played better today. But I just think that for some reason, this is the second game in a row, we come out in overtime and we're just more aggressive than we've ever been for the 40 minutes.

Coach John Whisenant, Sacramento Monarchs: We talked about, `They can't beat us with a two, if you drive them to the basket, let them go.' I was afraid to foul. We talked about it ... and I rejected it because I was afraid we'd foul them shooting and get beat that way. In hindsight, it couldn't have been any worse than what happened to us. But at the time I thought we could defend them.

Coach Mike Thibault, Connecticut Sun on Lindsay Whalen: This morning, I didn't think it was that bad but the swelling never went down. Her knee was fine, but her ankle, she tripped last night early in the second half trying to get over a pick and roll and it swelled up a little bit after the game. Then today, it was worse. We'll keep getting treatment. It's not a high ankle sprain so hopefully by Sunday, she can play. She'll be a little bit better, we'll see. Our other ones did a great job.

Nykesha Sales, Connecticut Sun: (Wyckoff's shot) was great momentum. For such a big shot, it ignited us, it ignited the crowd and gave us that extra boost. It seemed like after that happened everyone had this extra boost of energy and sometimes that is all you need, something to just light a fire and it kind of deflates them. They had the impression the game was over, up three with eight seconds left. They were like ďOk we got thisĒ, then the shot goes in they are like, `Aw man.' But for us, `We got another chance, lets go," and I thought we finished great.

Yolanda Griffith, Sacramento Monarchs: We've always kept our heads up no matter good or bad, we're going to keep fighting. We're in The Finals and we want to win it. We are not going to settle. Even though we're going home, sometimes we still struggle at home. We've just got to be more hungry than the other team.
