Rookie of the Year Temeka Johnson headlines team

Inaugural All-Rookie Team Announced

NEW YORK, Sept. 14 � Washington�s Temeka Johnson, the 2005 Rookie of the Year, headlines a talented group of rookies named to the WNBA�s inaugural All-Rookie Team, the league announced today.

San Antonio�s Katie Feenstra and Indiana�s Tan White joined Johnson as unanimous selections to the Team as each received 12 votes. Rounding out the team was Sacramento�s Chelsea Newton (10 votes) and Detroit�s Kara Braxton (9 votes).

Johnson, the sixth overall pick in the 2005 WNBA Draft, led rookies in scoring (9.3 ppg), assists (5.2 apg), steals (1.29 spg) and minutes played (973), while ranking second in free throw percentage (.788) and fourth in field goal percentage (.458). Her assist average ranked second in the league.

Feenstra, the eighth overall selection in the 2005 WNBA Draft, averaged 8.8 points and 5.1 rebounds, and ranked eighth in the league in blocked shots (1.29 bpg) and 14th in field goal percentage (.468). White, the second overall pick in this year�s draft, averaged 7.1 points, 1.6 assists and .88 steals, and averaged the third most minutes (20.4) for rookies. Newton, who started all 34 games for the regular season for the Western Conference champion Sacramento Monarchs, averaged 4.4 points, 1.6 assists and 21.0 minutes. Braxton averaged 6.9 points, 3.0 rebounds and shot 46.2 percent from the field in 33 games.

The voting panel consisted of the WNBA�s 13 head coaches, who were asked to select five players, regardless of position. Coaches were not permitted to vote for players on their own team.

Other players receiving votes included Sancho Lyttle, Houston (4); Suzy Batkovic, Seattle (3); Tanisha Wright, Seattle (2); Belinda Snell, Phoenix (1).

Four networks will carry 2005 WNBA Playoffs action. ABC, ESPN, ESPN2 and NBA TV will provide coverage through the conference finals. The 2005 WNBA Finals will be televised on ABC and ESPN2. For more information, go to WNBA.com.
