Where Are They Now: Annie Burgess

What have you been up to since you retired from the WNBA?
I moved back to Sydney in February 2008 after living in Columbia, Maryland for five years and I'm now working for a financial company.

How do you think the league different today from when you played?
I'm not sure if it has changed so much in the actual style of game....maybe it is a little faster but definitely a lot of the old faces have retired and moved on to life after basketball.

How is your son, Adrian, doing?
My son Adrian is great and was actually in Connecticut for the holidays visiting his dad. Long gone are the days where he would terrorize the MCI (Verizon) staff during and after our WNBA games. He is now a 14 year old....LOL. Time sure has flown by!!

How is life in Australia?
Life in Australia is great. It's definitely a slower pace to that of the US but Iím very excited to be back, not only seeing my family but to enjoy the wonderful weather we have. Summer is here and Australia definitely has some of the best beaches in the world.

Do you miss anything about DC? If so what?
I miss everything about DC. The lifestyle, the night life, everything. I miss all the people that I met who became life long friends. Someone asked me the other day where was your favorite venue to play ball, and I replied definitely the MCI (Verizon) Centre. I loved it!!!

What is your favorite Mystics memory? WNBA memory?
My best Mystics memory is in 2002 making the Eastern Conference Finals and playing against the New York Liberty. We didn't end up winning but the city celebrated us. We definitely had the best supporters.
I just want to say that it was a wonderful experience playing for the Mystics and it will be one I will treasure for the rest of my life and I'm so happy that I was able to share that experience with my son who still talks about it to this day.
