Mystics Select Stefanie Dolson
Washington, D.C. - The Washington Mystics selected Stefanie Dolson in the first round (sixth overall) of the 2014 WNBA draft.
A 6-5 center from the University of Connecticut, Dolson was an integral part of the team’s consecutive National Championships victories. During UCONN’s recent National title game against Notre Dame, she recorded a double-double with 17 points and 16 rebounds. She was recently named the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) Division 1 National Defensive Player of the Year. Dolson has received numerous accolades throughout her career including a two-time First Team all-conference selection, AP Second Team All-American, American Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Year and was a finalist for the Naismith award. She ranks fourth in field goal percentage (.588) and fifth in rebounds (1101) on UCONN’s all-time list. During her collegiate career, Dolson’s averages included 11.6 points and 7.1 rebounds per game
The Washington Mystics will open the season on Friday, May 16, at 7:00 pm against the reigning WNBA Champion Minnesota Lynx. In 2013, Coach Mike Thibault led the Mystics back to the playoffs for the first time since the 2010 season while earning Coach of the Year Honors.
