Washington, D.C. –The Washington Mystics acquired guard Kristin Haynie with the sixth pick in today’s dispersal draft. Haynie was selected in the first round (ninth overall) by the Sacramento Monarchs in the 2005 WNBA Draft. She has had stints with the Atlanta Dream and the Detroit Shock prior to returning to the Monarchs for the 2009 season.

“We are thrilled to add a true champion like Kristin Haynie to our Mystics roster. She has been a solid back-up point guard in this league for the last several years and we feel that she complements Lindsey Harding and our perimeter nucleus,” said General Manager Angela Taylor. “Her size, ability to shoot the ball, and rebounding from the guard position are nice assets to add. In addition to her successful collegiate career at Michigan State, she was part of the Monarchs championship run in 2005. We hope that she can bring that same championship mentality to DC."

In 2009, Haynie averaged a career high 5.2 points per game and 2.0 assists per game. She also shot a career best 83.3% from the free throw line. She finished the 2009 campaign ranked fourth in steals per 40 minutes (3.41.) Haynie assisted the Monarchs with their championship run in 2005 with an average of 12.9 minutes per game during the playoffs. Her playoff averages from 2005-2007 are 4.4 points per game and 1.6 assists per game.

Haynie is Michigan State University’s All-time career leader with 574 assists. During her senior year, she advanced to the NCAA Championship game and was named to the Associated Press All-America Honorable Mention, the All-Big Ten First Team and the Academic All-Big Ten team.

The Washington Mystics made a return to the playoffs following a 16-18 campaign. Season and group tickets for the 2010 season are currently on sale and can be purchased by calling the Mystics Sales Office at 1-877-DC-HOOP1 or by visiting the Mystics web site at
