Instant Analysis: Mystics 74 - Dream 64
Today’s 74-64 win over the second place Atlanta Dream (14-10) snaps Washington’s two game losing streak.
The Mystics now have a record of 13-15 and are in third place in the East. They are currently neck-in-neck with the defending WNBA champion Indiana Fever.
This was the fourth of five games between the Dream and the Mystics. Atlanta now leads the series 3-1. Washington will have one more regular season opportunity against them on August 28th.
It was an offensive team effort for the Mystics, but leading the way was center Kia Vaughn who had 12 points and 10 rebounds. It was Vaughn’s second straight start. In her first start of the season she scored a team-high and game-high 21 points on 8-for-14 shooting.
Point guard Ivory Latta also had a big game scoring 14 points and dishing out four assists.
Forward Monique Currie grabbed her 1,000th rebounds tonight, and ended the game with seven rebounds, while adding 15 points.
Rookie guard Tayler Hill also had a big offensive night ending the game with 10 points shooting 100% from the field.
The Mystics got into an offensive groove early, starting the game 6-for-11 including hitting their first three shots. Washington’s biggest lead of the night was 12.
After struggling from the line in their last game, the Mystics went 18-for-19 from the charity stripe.
The Dream’s guard Jasmine Thomas played for the Mystics during the 2011 and 2012 seasons. Thomas, who is from Fairfax, VA was traded to Atlanta in February.
In Washington’s game against Chicago on August 20th, point guard Ivory Latta scored her 2,000th career point.
The Mystics are now 8-6 at Verizon Center this season and Atlanta falls to 3-9 on the road.
Washington’s next opponent is Atlanta, again. They will face the Dream in Atlanta on Wednesday August 28th. The Mystics will have a week and a half off before traveling to Connecticut to face the Sun on Friday September 6th.
