GEICO celebrates Girl Scouts 100th anniversary with the Washington Mystics
Washington, D.C. - In honor of the Girl Scouts 100th year anniversary, GEICO has teamed up with the Washington Mystics and the Girl Scout Council of the Nation's Capital to host "Girl Scout Night at the Mystics" on Friday, June 8 at Verizon Center in Washington, D.C.
The Girl Scouts will receive a commemorative patch for attending the game and will have a chance to participate in several special fan experiences such as watching pre-game warm-ups from the bench; creating a fan tunnel for players entering the court; participating in the ball exchange ceremony where fans receive a basketball during player introductions; acting as co-captain and meeting with team captains; and attending the post-game autograph session.
"We are proud to partner with GEICO and assist the Girl Scouts in their centennial celebration," said Washington Mystics Chief Operating Officer Greg Bibb. "The organization provides a platform that allows young girls to learn numerous leadership skills and we are excited to join GEICO in presenting this special event in the Girl Scouts honor."
During the pre-game activities, some of the Girl Scouts will earn a road safety patch through the GEICO DASHboard Road Safety Program, designed to educate girls on safe driving skills and car maintenance. GEICO representatives will be on-site to teach preventative maintenance such as checking vehicle fluid levels, tire tread and pressure, and changing tires. The Girl Scouts will also take a pledge to make safe decisions on the road.
"As a former Girl Scout, I can proudly say that GEICO is honored to be part of the 100th anniversary celebration for the Girl Scouts," said Rynthia Rost, GEICO's vice president of public affairs. "Empowering young women to be knowledgeable about cars and road safety has always been a Girl Scout tradition and we're proud to support the Girl Scout Council of the Nation's Capital's efforts in encouraging young women to be safe drivers."
The GEICO Gecko will be joining more than 200,000 girls at Girl Scouts Rock the Mall: 100th Anniversary Sing-Along set for Saturday, June 9, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the National Mall in Washington, D.C. Hosted by the Girl Scout Council of the Nation's Capital and the Girl Scouts of the USA, this event will gather friends, family and alumni of all ages to celebrate 100 years of Girl Scouting.
