Mystics To Hold Blood Drive

WASHINGTON, D.C. – In response to a blood shortage, the Washington Mystics are joining forces with the American Red Cross for a blood drive on Tuesday, June 6th from Noon – 6:00 P.M. at Dewars 12 at Verizon Center. All participants will receive a t-shirt and two tickets to a future Mystics game.

All blood types are welcome and badly needed. There is a particularly urgent call for donors with type O negative blood, due to an already low supply of this blood type.

“Normally people are used to hearing from the Red Cross when blood supplies are already low,” said Hector Garcia, Chief of Operations for the GC & P Region. “In this case, we are able to look ahead at blood donor appointments, and are urging donors to give the gift of life to avoid a blood shortage situation. The blood supply must be replenished on a daily basis, and based on the outlook of the next several days, a potential shortage is very possible without an immediate response from community blood donors.”

Fans can come to Dewars 12 on June 6th or you can call 1-800-GIVE-LIFE immediately to schedule an appointment to donate. Information about Regional Blood Donor Centers or community blood drive locations and times can be found at Business and community groups that are willing to hold blood drives are asked to call 1-800-787-9282, x4680 for information.
