On Wednesday’s game against the Silver Stars:

"I was really proud of the way we came back. I thought we had some people that would step up and help our energy but, you know, with Matee Ajavon coming in, she hadn’t been playing her normal 20 minutes in the last few games but she’s a fighter and helped us with our defensive pressure and I think she likes to get out and run. She hit some big shots. Bernice Mosby really helped us out in coming in and guarding Sophia Young, they were college teammates. I thought we had some runs; we shot the ball pretty well. I was a little disappointed with our turnovers. I felt we could have moved the ball a little bit more, especially in the first half."

Alana Beard Named All-Star Starter Mystics guard Alana Beard was named a starter for the 2009 WNBA All-Star Game, making it her fourth all-star appearance. Beard leads the Mystics in scoring and ranks fourth in the league with 18.9 points per game. Beard also ranks second in the league in steals (3.00) and averages 33.1 minutes per game. Beard received 64,237 votes in the East.

Friendly Foes Mystics guard Matee Ajavon will reunite with center Kia Vaughn and forward/guard Essence Carson of the New York Liberty. The three of them played at Rutgers University. New York Liberty assistant coach Anne Donovan coached Alana Beard during the 2006 World Championship tournament in Brazil.
