As 2012 comes to a close, PhoenixMercury.com caught up with several Mercury players to look back on their favorite things of the year. Today, we talk sneakers with Sammy Prahalis.

Sammy Prahalis knows her sneakers.

In fact, she has to have one of the greatest, most diverse collections of kicks in the WNBA. In that spirit, we asked the 2012 WNBA All-Rookie Team member to give us her top five favorite sneakers of 2012.

No. 5, Nike Zoom Kobe VII Galaxy

What They Said (Complex): “With the Zoom Kobe VIII on the horizon, the Zoom Kobe VII has more or less finished its run — and the 'Galaxy' version from the 2012 NBA All-Star Game was one of the best. It may have been overshadowed by the 'Galaxy' Foamposites, but unlike its NSW counterpart, the ZKVII was actually worn in the big game."

What Sammy Says: “They were really comfortable and I love to play in the low-tops. I also loved that they had a bunch of dark colors in them and just were different than a lot of playing shoes out at the time.”

No. 4, Nike Air Yeezy II

What They Said (Complex): “Animistic inspiration can be noticed on several aspects throughout the model, as anaconda-textured leather quarter-panels have been utilized, further accented by a Vac Tech Swoosh. The unique heel has been molded with a reptilian-specific spike, also featuring scales within the mix. The foundation of the Yeezy II was taken from the Nike Air Tech Challenge II, as the brand then implemented the use of a midfoot strap."

What Sammy Says: “This is the only shoe on the list that I do not own, but I had to put them in my favorite sneakers of 2012. I love grey shoes; it’s probably my favorite sneaker color to wear. These shoes look kind of futuristic, which I also love.”

No. 3, Air Jordan IV Cavs

What They Said (Complex): “Jordan hit ‘the shot’ hundreds of times in his career but THE SHOT against the Cavaliers over Craig Ehlo in the NBA Playoffs in 1989 will forever be remembered, by everyone. In 2012, Jordan Brand payed homage with a Cavs colorway of the Air Jordan IV that MJ was wearing when he hit the foul line jumper."

What Sammy Says: “I love the colorway with these and being from New York, I rep Knicks colors which everyone seems to like.”

No. 2, Chuck Taylor DC Comic White Superman

What They Said (Complex): “Converse has teamed up with DC Comics in the past, releasing the iconic Chuck Taylor All Star in comic-inspired art depicting classic characters like The Flash, Batman, and Superman. This new installation pays respects to the Justice League's most prominent female member, Wonder Woman, and Killer Croc, a reptilian member of Batman's rogues gallery."

What Sammy Says: “I wore these with just about everything this year. I love high-top Chuck Taylors; they are so classic. Adding Superman in the mix was the perfect touch, I thought.”

No. 1, Air Jordan 7 Retro Olympic

What They Said (Complex): “Going into the Barcelona Olympics with the best team ever assembled, Team USA was virtually guaranteed gold — the only question was how much they'd win by (answer: a lot). Nike's take on Mike's Air jordan VII made use of lots of red, white and blue — as well as silver accents — but the gold on the midsole and Jumpman represented the only possible outcome."

What Sammy Says: “These are my favorite Jordan’s. I love how they have the silver and gold in there and of course the USA colors.”
