Phoenix Mercury guard Samantha Prahalis was named to the WNBA All-Rookie Team, as voted on by the 12 WNBA head coaches. Prahalis received nine votes, tied for the second-most of the five-player team. Coaches voted for five players regardless of position and were not permitted to vote for players on their own team.

Prahalis played and started 28 games for the Mercury this season, playing 31.8 minutes per game, the third-most by a Phoenix rookie in franchise history. She led all first-year players in assists (4.5 per game) and was ranked second in scoring (11.6) and steals (1.57). For her efforts, Prahalis was named the league’s Rookie of the Month for June after averaging 13.8 points, 5.1 assists and 1.8 steals in nine games.

Prahalis recorded at least six assists in 10 games this season, including four consecutive games from May 31-June 8, the longest such streak by a rookie in franchise history. The 5-7 guard showed her full repertoire throughout the season, first as a facilitator averaging 5.9 assists through the season’s first nine games, and then as a scorer averaging 12.6 points in her final 19 games.

The Ohio State alumna was selected with the sixth overall pick in the 2012 WNBA Draft, Phoenix’s highest selection since drafting DeWanna Bonner fifth overall in 2009. On Sept. 26, the Mercury won the 2013 WNBA Draft Lottery and the right to select with the No. 1 overall pick in the 2013 WNBA Draft to be held in April.

Other members of the 2012 WNBA All-Rookie Team include WNBA Rookie of the Year Nneka Ogwumike (Los Angeles), Glory Johnson (Tulsa), Tiffany Hayes (Atlanta) and Riquna Williams (Tulsa).
