Mercury Announces 2011 Male Practice Squad

The Phoenix Mercury today announced its official male practice squad. Tryouts were held at US Airways Center on Saturday, May 14 to determine the 20-person squad who will scrimmage and train the two-time WNBA Champion Phoenix Mercury at select practices from May through September.

“The talent level of the participants this year was impressive and we are anxious to get them on the court with our players,” said Mercury Head Coach Corey Gaines. “Practicing against this group will definitely help strengthen our team.”

Those selected will receive a pair of NIKE basketball shoes and tickets to select Mercury games.

The Mercury, one of the eight original WNBA clubs, is part of the longest running professional women’s team sports league in the United States. The team will tip off Season 15 on June 4 on the road against the defending WNBA Champion Seattle Storm. The club’s home opener is on June 17 against conference rival San Antonio.
