On Sunday, July 29, over 70 girls’ basketball players from across the Valley (and a few from Australia) participated in a skills clinic conducted by Phoenix Mercury players and coaches sponsored by Blue Cross Blue Shield of Arizona, an independent licensee of the Blue Cross Blue Shield Association. The campers learned moves in the post from the Mercury's frontline of Krystal Thomas, Avery Warley, Nakia Sanford, and DeWanna Bonner. In the afternoon session Sammy Prahalis, Alexis Hornbuckle, Charde Houston, and Alexis Gray-Lawson taught valuable skills for perimeter players.
"We love doing this," said the Mercury's Alexis Hornbuckle. "It's great to come in and work with these kids. They really soak up what we say and we make sure they have a fun time while learning a lot about basketball."
Each session featured a special Q&A session with the Mercury team.
"The kids are so much fun," added Sammy Prahalis. "Anytime we can help out and raise awareness for women's basketball is great."
