OFFICIAL: Mercury Signs Houston to Extension
PHOENIX - The Phoenix Mercury today signed forward Chardé Houston to a contract extension, the team has announced.
A five-year WNBA veteran with Minnesota (2008-11) and Phoenix (2012-13), Houston was originally acquired by the Mercury on Feb. 24, 2012, in a sign-and-trade deal with the Lynx. A 2009 WNBA All-Star selection, Houston won a championship with Minnesota in 2011. The 6-foot graduate of the University of Connecticut also won the WNBA's Dawn Staley Community Leadership Award in 2011 for her off-the-court contributions.
Originally selected with the 30th pick in the 2008 WNBA Draft, Houston owns career averages of 9.2 points and 3.5 rebounds in 188 games. She is one of just four players to appear in all 33 games this season for the Mercury, and is averaging 6.0 points, 2.2 rebounds and 1.3 assists in those opportunities.
