Mercury Acquires Briana Gilbreath Off Waivers
PHOENIX – The Phoenix Mercury has claimed guard Briana Gilbreath off waivers, the club announced today. Gilbreath was waived by the Los Angeles Sparks Monday.
The Mercury has also waived guard Erin Thorn.
Gilbreath appeared in 11 games (three starts) for the Mercury in 2012 on a series of three seven-day contracts. The 6-0 guard averaged 7.0 points and 3.6 rebounds per outing. An alum of the University of Southern California, Gilbreath was originally selected in the third round (35th overall) of the 2012 WNBA Draft by the Washington Mystics, but was waived prior to the start of the season.
The current roster stands at 13 players. The final 11-player roster must be submitted by Thursday.
The Mercury will open its 2013 season on Monday, May 27, when it hosts the Chicago Sky and Elena Delle Donne, the second overall pick in the this year’s WNBA Draft. Tipoff is slated for 2 p.m. PT and will be broadcast on ESPN2. Tickets are available by visiting www.phoenixmercury.com.
