Penny Taylor Named to WNBA Roster for "Stars at the Sun"
The WNBA announced today that Mercury forward Penny Taylor has been named to the WNBA roster for the “WNBA vs. USA: The Stars at the Sun” exhibition contest on Saturday. The game will be played at Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Conn., and televised on ESPN at 12:30 PT.
Taylor joins the squad based on a vote by head coaches in the league. The two-time WNBA All-Star (2002, 2007) currently ranks sixth in the WNBA scoring 17.3 points per game and is averaging a career-high 4.9 assists per game, fifth most in the league.
The 11-woman WNBA roster will take on the USA Basketball Women’s National Team showcasing the world’s best female basketball players under one roof. Taylor will compete against teammates Diana Taurasi and Candice Dupree who were selected to play on the USA Basketball team.
Phoenix is one of four teams in the league represented by at least three players in the game (San Antonio, Seattle and Atlanta). It also marks the second time in the last three exhibition events that the Mercury has been represented by a trio of players (2007).
