Hello From London
We are on to Day Two of competition for the United States Women's Team. They will be going up against Angola, a surprise upset over Senegal in the African Championships. This is the first time the Angolan women's team will have participated in the Olympic Games.
The Americans came out in their first game against Croatia a bit nervous and excited. It was the first Olympics for five of the players, and it took them a bit to settle down, as their depth eventually overpowered the #31 team in the world by a score of 81-56. The Americans came out shooting the ball, but missing early, which allowed Croatia to be down 3 at halftime--31-28.
The Americans were just too strong, and used their bench to run away in the second half. Angel McCoughtry came off the bench to spark the defense into easy baskets for USA. Lindsay Whalen and Sue Bird were solid at the point, with Tina Charles and Candace Parker each bringing in double doubles. Diana Taurasi was her ever steady self as a team player.
Angola lost in their first round game against Turkey 72-50. They are young and inexperienced, but will play with a lot of passion tonight. Should be win #2 for the United States, but you have to love their mindset, "one game at a time, eight-times to reach our goal--the GOLD!"
Go USA, and Go Phoenix Mercury! Itís great being in London and watching Team USA. I'm anxious for our players and I'm looking forward to doing a bit of site seeing as well.
Hope all is "BRILLIANT" in X-Factor Nation!
