Minnesota forward Katie Smith has taken opponents off the dribble and off screen-and-rolls all season. This season, she took a red pen to the WNBA record books.

Smith, in her third season with the Lynx, shattered seven of the league's single-season records this year and tied another.

During the 2001 campaign, Smith set the crown jewels of records: most points in a season and highest scoring average. Smith waltzed past Cynthia Cooper's 686 points set in 1999 with 739 points, an average of 23.1 points per game, 0.4 points better than Cooper's record, set in 1998.

On July 27 against Washington, she became the second-fastest WNBA player to record 1,500 career points (84 games). On Aug. 1 at Phoenix, Smith netted the 3,000th point in her professional career (WNBA and ABL), joining Utah's Natalie Williams as the only players to reach that milestone in U.S. women's professional history.

Smith set the WNBA single-game scoring record with a 46-point performance on July 8 at Los Angeles, surpassing Cooper's mark of 44 points set at Sacramento on July 25, 1997. Smith and Cooper are the only players in WNBA history to record 40-plus points in a WNBA game, each having achieved the mark on two occasions. The two-time WNBA All-Star leads the league in scoring, minutes played, three-point field goals and free throws.
