McConnell Serio Steps Down as Lynx Head Coach

The Minnesota Lynx announced that head coach Suzie McConnell Serio has resigned and that assistant coach Carolyn Jenkins will remain with the team as interim coach for the remainder of the 2006 season.

"Suzies legacy as head coach of the Lynx is something that will not be forgotten. She guided the Lynx to our first-ever playoff appearance, and did a lot of good things both on and off the court. We wish her the best in the future," said Lynx Chief Operating Officer Roger Griffith.

"I am just thankful to the Minnesota Lynx organization and to Glen Taylor for giving me the opportunity to coach in the WNBA," said McConnell Serio. It was a tough decision to step down but I just felt like it was the right time to walk away and allow the team to make a run towards the playoffs.

In three-plus seasons in Minnesota, McConnell Serio guided the Lynx to a 58-67 (.464) regular-season record and two post-season appearances. Also, she garnered the 2004 WNBA Coach of the Year award and leaves with the most coaching victories in franchise history.

Also, the team has announced that assistant coach Susan Yow has also resigned. Yow, a veteran college head coach, was brought in by the staff at the beginning of the season.
