Minnesota Lynx Place Nuria Martinez on the Suspended List

Guard to Return to Spain to Fulfill Obligations with Spanish National Team

Minneapolis/St. Paul - The Minnesota Lynx today announced the team has placed guard Nuria Martinez on the Suspended List. Martinez is returning to Spain because of obligations to the Spanish National Team. She is joining the national team in preparation for the European Championships, which will be held in September.

Martinez was activated from the Injured List yesterday, and she played two minutes in the Lynx’ loss to the Charlotte Sting last night. It was her first appearance in a Lynx uniform in 2005.

Originally claimed off waivers from Sacramento on May 19, 2004, Martinez was immediately placed on the Injured List (strained hamstring) before being transferred to the Suspended List on July 19.

Martinez has played professionally the past two seasons in Spain for Perfumerias Avenida, and averaged 12.3 ppg, 4.1 rpg and 3.1 apg in 26 contests in 2004-05. The 5-9 guard also was a member of the Spanish National Team at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens, Greece, where she posted 4.5 ppg and 1.7 rpg in six games.

The Lynx’ active roster now stands at 10 players. Minnesota’s next game is Wednesday (July 13) against the Detroit Shock at Target Center, beginning at noon. Tickets are available at the Target Center Box Office, online at www.lynxbasketball.com or by calling 1-877-WNBA-TIX. The game will be telecast on FSN North and broadcast on KLBB-AM 1400.
