Lynx Release Megan Duffy and Brooke Smith

The Minnesota Lynx Thursday announced the team has released guard Megan Duffy and center Brooke Smith. Duffy was drafted by the Lynx with the 31st overall selection of the 2006 WNBA Draft and Smith was the 23rd pick in the 2007 WNBA Draft.

Duffy appeared in 31 games as a rookie out of Notre Dame in 2006. She averaged 3.4 ppg, 0.9 rpg and 1.2 apg in 12.5 mpg. The 5-7 guard's season highs were 13 points, three rebounds and five assists.

Smith, a 6-3 center out of Stanford, played three seasons with the Cardinals after transferring from Duke after the 2002-03 season. In 153 collegiate games, she averaged 10.5 ppg and 5.0 rpg on 53.1% field goal shooting.

The Lynx will open their preseason schedule on May 5 against the San Antonio Silver Stars in Wichita, Kansas. The regular season opener is on May 19 at 7 p.m. at the Indiana Fever with the home opener scheduled for the following day, May 20, at 6:00 p.m. against the defending Western Conference champion Sacramento Monarchs.
