Mystics 52, Lynx 46

Lynx Coach Suzie McConnell Serio
"The goal wasn't to shoot 26 three-pointers tonight. They can knock them down, but it was ugly both ways. We struggled offensively, but we held Washington to 52 points. Scoring 85 points on Tuesday to 46 tonight is not great. We didn't quit. We were able to fight back, and had a sense of urgency. We just couldn't hit."
"I look at the bus trip, long pregame and lots of sitting. But there's no excuse. We must shoot better. We do this in training camp, so I don't have an answer. Our inside game was nonexistent tonight. We talked about getting the ball inside, and they started shooting 'threes'. I don't live and die by that. We need a balance, inside and out."
"Our turnovers are frustrating. We've talked about improving on taking care of the ball. Credit goes to Washington on putting pressure on the ball. We didn't make good reads and good decisions. But that comes with time. After our first five players, everyone out there is trying to make the team. It wasn't fun to watch for these fans tonight. We missed layups, free throws and jumpers."
Lynx Guard Katie Smith
"It was sloppy tonight. A little out of whack, but our effort was good. We just have to fine-tune things and clean things up, and make better decisions. But this is a week into training camp, and this is an exhibition game. We realized there are a lot of things we need to improve on. That's what this is all about. We need to get through practice this week and get after it."
"The play is great. Suzie's decision will be tough. I have no idea how it will pan out, but I'm confident she'll make the best decisions for the team. I don't envy her with this decision, because everybody brings something to the table. We have one more exhibition game and a good seven to 10 days before we start our season. So that will be nice to have three good tests out of the way, and then get to the real thing."
"I think that either on the road or at home, we'll be fine. I think in the past we've been a better road team than a home team. I feel good about what we have here in the next week and a half. We're going to get things cleaned up. This will not be a repeat, because we have the players who can do that."
Lynx Guard Tamara Moore
"You never know what to expect. It's the second game, and it's also exhibition. A lot of girls still have nerves, as far as just trying to make the team. I think once the team is made, it will be a lot easier to focus on the fundamentals of the game. But I still think that everyone's just a little bit rattled and a little bit nervous. It just showed we didn't give up tonight."
"We need to work on our chemistry. A lot of these girls haven't played with each other. We still have a lot of girls back from last year's team, but it's just getting back into the flow of the up-and-down pace of the game and playing against other players. Coach tells us all the time that our toughest competitor is ourselves, by working hard in practice and pushing each other. Nobody puts pressure on the ball like your teammates. If we start doing that in practice, it'll turn over into the games."
"A lot of people are trying to find their niche on the team. When you have Katie Smith, Svetlana Abrosimova and Teresa Edwards, they're just trying to bring to the team what they usually bring. Katie wasn't on fire like she usually is, but I would put Katie out there nine times out of 10 and let her shoot those shots. Because the majority of the time, she makes them."
"Last game, a lot of people were hitting the 'threes', so they felt like they could still do that. When they're not falling, we need to realize that we need to penetrate more and create more for other people, rather than take it to the hole."
Mystics Coach Marianne Stanley
"At the pro level, most coaches in the game feel that it's a game of runs, and we put a run on at an opportune time. That got us over the top. Both teams were struggling offensively throughout, which, given the situation and the circumstances, is understandable. We've got a lot of new faces, as they do. The first time out of the gate, everybody was a little bit nervous, so it took a while to get things going. But we got that run when we needed it."
"It took Coco a little while to get going. She was a little over-excited about being at home and trying too hard. It took her a little while to settle in and be able to make some shots. I think making her first jump shot of the second half really helped her tremendously."
"Chamique's a gamer. She's somebody who can step up at any moment, make the right play, make a big shot, get a key rebound, make a defensive stop, do whatever it takes to come through for us. She does it. She's multifaceted. She does it in a whole lot of ways. She rebounded well, she made some big plays, and she gave us the leadership we needed at the right time."
Mystics Guard Coco Miller
"It was fun being back home in Rochester. I haven't been back for a while, so it was fun playing in front of my parents and friends. It was our first game of the year playing together and with me being back home. I had the jitters early on, but I was able to settle into my rhythm."
Mystics Forward Chamique Holdsclaw
"It was our first exhibition game, so we went out there and tried to play with some energy. At times, it was sloppy both ways, but we just wanted to go out there, learn some things about ourselves, and learn some things about this team."
"One thing I'm trying to do is make shots and do some other things when the shots aren't working. Tonight, I missed some chippies, but I know that one thing I bring to this team is my energy and my rebounding. I know I'm one of the top rebounders in the WNBA, so I try to do that."
"It was great for Coco. Coco had a great year last year, (the league's) Most Improved Player. She's definitely an asset to our team. She goes out there and gives it 110 percent. I'm glad she could come home and play in front of the fans that supported her."
Mystics Forward Stacey Dales-Schuman
"There's points in basketball where there's momentum swings, and we felt it in the second half. Chamique got rolling a little bit, and we played more as a team. You're really searching for one another early in the year, and that's what we're doing. We'll do that for probably another couple of games."
"Tough rims, but a great atmosphere. We were impressed with the Rochester crew coming out and supporting women's basketball. It was great for Coco to be in her hometown, see her family and all the people who supported here, and get her jitters out. It was our first game in a competitive setting."
