The New York Liberty (4-3) begin their ten-day road trip with the Chicago Sky Wednesday, June 26, at 12:30 ET. New York looks to bounce back from a June 23rd 78-77 loss to the San Antonio Silver Stars in overtime. Despite solid shooting and out rebounding San Antonio, the Liberty dug themselves a hole with 23 turnovers in the game. Cappie Pondexter led the team with 19 points, 11 rebounds and 6 assists but also had 7 turnovers. Plenette Pierson added 18 points and grabbed 6 rebounds. Leilani Mitchell continues to be the hot story off the bench putting together another strong stat line of 11 points, 6 assists and 5 rebounds. Kara Braxton had a quiet showing but newly signed post Avery Warley had a bright first game in a Liberty uniform. She scored 6 points and pulled 4 rebounds by staying close to the rim, moving without the ball and rebounding.

The Chicago Sky (5-2) are coming off of a June 22nd 71-61 win over the majorly depleted roster of the Indiana Fever. The Sky’s leading scorer Epiphanny Prince continued to dominate with 21 points and 6 rebounds. All Star rookie Elena Delle Donne scored 13 points and grabbed 7 rebounds. Center Sylvia Fowles added 11 points and 7 rebounds in the game. The Sky have a dependable supporting cast to surround this very potent big three of Prince, Delle Donne and Fowles. Prince is a guard with strength, explosiveness and is capable of scoring unconsciously. Her scoring prowess is complemented by the rookie of the year front-runner, the versatile Elena Delle Donne, who is averaging 18.6 points per game off of threes, pull-ups, and layups. The dynamic duo is also shooting with great accuracy from trey, Delle Donne at 45% and Prince at 53%. Leading the way inside, Fowles averages just as many rebounds as she does points, 12.9 a piece.

Keys To The Game:

1) Start Strong

The Liberty are getting into the habit of playing from behind and developing a second half mentality. However, getting behind on the road may prove too tricky to overcome.

2) Better Shots For Cappie

We trust that Cappie loves fourth quarters and game winners but that doesn’t mean we want to see a fade away step back contested threes from the left corner over and over in the early parts of the game. The Liberty need to create and Cappie needs to take shots that are in transition, closer to the basket, on balance, and uncontested.

The Liberty lead the league in turnovers. As special as they have been on defense and in the 2nd half of games, they make it harder on themselves by coming up with so many empty possessions and allowing run-outs off of turnovers.

4) Physicality on D

With Elena Delle Donne on the court it will be that much harder to play team defense against Prince. Being physical by bumping cutters off their screens, pushing players an inch or two further our of their range, and wearing down on a player will help the Liberty be able to manage members of the Sky one-on-one.
