NEW YORK, NY – June 17, 2013 – New York Liberty Head Coach and General Manager Bill Laimbeer announced today that the team has reached a contract agreement with free agent center Avery Warley. Per team policy, the terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Warley is in her second season in the league after spending 2012 with the Phoenix Mercury. She saw action in 28 games with three starts, averaging 3.1 points and 5.7 rebounds per game. Warley was a member of the Washington Mystics during the 2013 training camp.

“Avery has some experience in the WNBA,” said Laimbeer. “She is a solid player and we look for her to help give us a boost in the frontcourt.”

Warley will assume the roster spot vacated by forward Cheryl Ford, who was released this past weekend. Ford signed with the Liberty as a free agent in March but was sidelined with a left knee injury, appearing in just one preseason game for the Liberty.

Ford, a four-time WNBA All-Star, returned to the league after spending the past four seasons playing internationally. She played in Detroit under Laimbeer for seven seasons, winning three championships (2003, 2006, 2008). The third pick overall in 2003, she was named Rookie of the Year after averaging a double-double with 10.8 points and 10.4 rebounds per game in her first season. Ford was also a two-time All-WNBA Second Team selection and earned All-Star MVP honors in 2007.

In seven seasons, Ford averaged 10.8 points and 9.7 rebounds per game. In her 38 WNBA playoff games, she posted 9.9 points and 9.8 rebounds per contest. Internationally, Ford has played in Poland, Czech Republic, Italy and most recently was a member of Canik Bld in Turkey. She averaged 15.5 points and 14.3 rebounds over 22 games this past season.

The Liberty return to action on Sunday, June 23 to host the San Antonio Silver Stars at 3 p.m. at Prudential Center. Tickets are available at
