My March Into The Madness

The NCAA Tournament is one of the most popular events in the sports world. Much like the Super Bowl, it has the power to attract the average non-sports fan to arenas and television sets around the country. The only thing more exciting than office pools, cracking the code on bracketology and watching all the action, is being on the court.

As we settle in to enjoy the madness of this month, will sit down with some players to discuss their experience and favorite moments in the NCAA Tournament throughout their collegiate careers. Sure, not every one of them was able to walk away with a ring or Championship trophy, but as you’ll discover it’s more about being there than anything else.

Today, we’re chatting with guard Loree Moore. During her career at Tennessee, she averaged 6.1 points, 3.8 rpg and 3.6 apg average.

What was your most memorable moment of being part of the NCAA Tournament?
Just the excitement of being a part of something so monumental. It was a win-or-go-home situation, so you always had to be on your “A” game. Also, being able to be in the Final Four all four years throughout my college career with Tennessee. That was a wonderful experience and an accomplishment, despite not winning a championship.

How did you prepare yourself for such a highlighted event?
My preparation was RELAXATION. I practiced relaxation during the off-season, pre-season workouts to the regular season. Being relaxed and loose prepared me to remain focus on the “goal” that was at the end of the tunnel the entire time.

What did you take most from that loss in the Tournament?
That we were always in reach of winning a championship and it was obtainable. That was my main focus for the next season.

As a team, what were some of your game day preparations for the tournament games?
Scouting, film and shoot-around. Nothing too heavy. Remaining focus on the task at hand and taking it day-by-day was key.

Do you feel like your play improved during the Tournament?
Oh yes! You always increase your level of play. I wanted to win! I was willing to do as much as I could to help the team win.

Has there been anything that’s come close in life to the excitement of playing in the Tournament?
Last season, with the Liberty and making the run against Detroit and feeling like we should have moved on. Just the whole season in general was very exciting. There is such a great anticipation for this upcoming season. I hope we can pick up where we left off and make yet another great run.
