Liberty acquire No. 7 overall pick in 2013 WNBA Draft for Kia Vaughn and No. 17 pick.

NEW YORK, NY – February 27, 2013 – New York Liberty Head Coach and General Manager Bill Laimbeer announced today that the team has executed a trade with the Washington Mystics, acquiring the seventh overall pick in the 2013 WNBA Draft in exchange for Kia Vaughn and a 2013 second round pick (No. 17 overall).

“We thank Kia for her contributions to the Liberty, both on and off the court. She expressed a desire to continue her playing career elsewhere and we honored her request and wish her well,” said Laimbeer. “We have the opportunity to select a fine player with the seventh pick and this move also gives us salary cap flexibility moving forward to continue building a team to compete for the championship.”

Vaughn played four seasons with the Liberty, joining the franchise in 2009 as the eighth overall selection in the WNBA Draft. She appeared in 31 games (17 starts) in 2012, averaging 6.4 points and 5.0 rebounds per game.
