Liberty Host Atlanta in Rematch

The Liberty will seek revenge against the Dream when they host Atlanta Sunday at 3:00 pm at the Prudential Center. New York suffered a 75-56 loss to Atlanta on Friday. One of few bright spots for the Liberty was a 14-point, 6-rebound performance from Kara Braxton, who has been providing the production inside in the absence of Cheryl Ford and a banged up Plenette Pierson. Rookie Kamiko Williams added 9 points and Alex Montgomery pulled down 12 rebounds and dished 4 assists. Lowlights for the Liberty included an uncharacteristic 2-12 shooting night for Cappie Pondexter in which she scored just 6 points and gave up 6 turnovers. The lowest point of the game for New York was the collapse of Essence Carson, who left the game with a knee injury.

Angel McCoughtry boasted a stellar stat line of 15 points, 10 assists, 6 steals and 5 rebounds for Atlanta. The Dream were dominant on the interior with Sancho Lyttle leading all scorers with 18 points and Erika de Souza contributing 13 points and 6 rebounds. Atlanta moved the ball and ran in transition racking up 20 assists in the game. They also forced 19 New York turnovers and limited the Liberty to 36.9% shooting from the field and 12.5% from three. They outrebounded New York 45-36.

Keys To The Game:

1) Cappie needs to get it going.
2-12 shooting and 6 turnovers isnít going to cut it. And without Essence Carson she will have to up her productivity and efficiency. Cappie looked unlike herself on the court in Atlanta, and at times frustrated, or, sometimes complacent.

2) Guards step up.
With Essence Carson injured, Liberty guards are going to have to grow up quick and provide offense by committee. Expect Alex Montgomery to shoulder more responsibility and for Kamiko Williams to be asked to look for her shot more.

3) Transition D
Atlanta looked faster, sleeker and more athletic. They played up-tempo and shared the ball to find open shots and run-outs.

4) Limit Turnovers
The Liberty still struggle with taking care of the ball. Atlanta is too deep and too talented to allow extra possessions. If New York wants to slow the Dream down one way is to limit turnovers- otherwise Atlanta will make them pay.

5) Contain Penetration
Atlanta is not a strong three point shooting team- they shoot 25% from three- they want to attack you, get close to the basket, play up tempo and rebound. Keep them in front and make them settle for contested pull-ups or threes off of a penetrate-and-pitch situation.
