Kraayeveld Leads Team with 13 Points and 7 Rebounds

Liberty Defeat Comets in Garden Debut

The New York Liberty completed its final exhibition game of the 2007 WNBA pre-season at Madison Square Garden on Saturday afternoon, besting the Houston Comets 74-63.

The new look Liberty took the floor at The Garden for the first time this year and gave its fans plenty to cheer about. Forward Cathrine Kraayeveld led New York’s scoring charge with 13 points and seven rebounds, while Houston’s Michelle Snow scored a team-high 13 points.

New York led by as many as 13 in the first half, however Houston dominated the paint with 16 points and six rebounds to their six points and five rebounds. The Liberty scored its largest lead of the game in the final quarter, led by guard Loree Moore who scored four of her six points.

Shameka Christon added 11 points and three rebounds for the Liberty, while teammates Erin Thorn, Jessica Davenport and Barbara Farris each finished with nine points. Sheryl Swoopes added 8 points and Ashley Shields came off the bench to score 12 points for Houston .

Rookie guard Shay Doron made her debut at The Garden, with a seven-point, two-rebound outing. When asked about what it was like for her first experience playing in her new home she said, "Once I step on the court, it is all about basketball."

There’s plenty more excitement to come, as the regular season tips off for the Liberty on Sunday afternoon at 4:00PM in Madison Square Garden. The Liberty will face Candace Dupree, Stacey Dales and the Chicago Sky.
